The core mandate of SALAR is providing legal aid to the society, especially to those who cannot afford legal services. In fulfilling this mandate SALAR has partnered with a number of non-governmental organizations such as Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and Kituo Cha Sheria.
SALAR and the renowned Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) in part of fulfilling their mandate of service to the society and protecting human rights in Kenya, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 16th February 2017. SALAR sends four students every Tuesday and Thursday to assist in the weekly KHRC legal aid currently under Advocate Sandra Oyombe. Members have also had the opportunity of participating in a number of mediation sessions at KHRC
Kituo have been our partners for a number of years now. Weekly, SALAR sends a student or two from Monday to Wednesday. In addition, SALAR has been sending a representation of 15 students during the occasional legal aid clinics.
SALAR has visited KYCTC thrice in the course of the year; Friday, 21st April, 28th April and Friday 22nd September 2017. We offered those in remand legal aid and hooked some of them with Pendekezo Letu, which took over their cases and accorded the much desired legal aid.
